The Iblea coast is one of the most popular seaside resorts of Sicily. Seaside cities and fishing villages follow one another along the coastline characterized by wide beaches of fine golden sand and crystal clear clean sea.

The sea beds are shallow and sandy making this area ideal for families and children. The Mediterranean climate, mild and sunny most of the year, makes this corner of Sicily a relaxing holiday destination but also lively thanks to restaurants and other night life places along the entire coast.

Kamarina
One of the largest archaeological site of Sicily, Kamarina is a precious archaeological heritage both terrestrial and submarine. It was founded in the early VIth century B.C. by the Syracusans in order to curb the expansion towards south of the city of Gela. Among its most famous sights: the remains of the Temple of Athena, the temple of Athena Polias, the port and the Agora.

Scoglitti

Scoglitti
The city of Scoglitti overlooks the Gulf of Gela, near Kamarina. The seaside resort is famous for its harbor and its fishing industry. The coastline offers many beaches characterized by fine sand and white dunes.

Randello

Randello
Protected natural reserve, Randello is located between Punta Braccetto and Scoglitti.
It has a pine forest overlooking the sea and a beautiful beach with multiform shells and a large pine forest with many tree varieties. The Blue Guide 2014 included Randello within the most beautiful beaches in Italy.

Punta Braccetto

Punta Braccetto
Punta Braccetto is famous for its Tower Vigliena, built in the late XVIth century to defend the coast from attacks by pirate ships. Punta Braccetto is also known for the Canalotti area where the Allies landed in 1943. It also earned a place in the Blue Guide 2014.

Torre di Mezzo

Torre di Mezzo
The beach of Torre di Mezzo is a few kilometres away from Punta Secca and owes its name to the presence of a tower between Punta Secca’s Scalambri tower and Punta Braccetto’s Vigliena tower. Characteristic of the place, the beach is framed by two huge rocks on either side.

Punta Secca

Punta Secca
PSmall fishermen village, Punta Secca is characterized by the presence of a small formation of rocks in front of the main beach. The lighthouse which overlooks the village was built in 1853, with a height of 34 meters. Punta Secca is known today primarily because of the small square of the tower where the house of “Detective Montalbano” is located, famous character of Andrea Camilleri featured in a television series just as popular.

Caucana

Caucana
Caucana is a seaside resort near Punta Secca, famous for its archaeological park, former refuge of the Greek colony of Kamarina.
The archaeological park hosts cultural events in the summer such as concerts and theatrical performances even more enjoyable thanks to the suggestive location where the sea and ancient ruins blend harmoniously.

Oasi della Foce dell'Irminio

Oasi della Foce dell’Irminio
The Irminio River, the longest in the province of Ragusa, is named after Hermes, the ancient god Mercury who, in these waters, fell in love with the nymph Dafnide. The river, in ancient times, was the fastest way to connect the inside territories with the coast. Today, Oasi della Foce dell’Irminio is a protected natural area, which is also part of the Blue Guide 2014.

Playa Grande
Playa Grande is a city located a few kilometres away from Donnalucata. Part of the beach is in the natural reserve of Oasi della Foce dell’Irminio. The beach is of fine golden sand and the sea has this intense blue cobalt color.

Donnalucata

Donnalucata
The Donnalucata beach is made of fine golden sand and bathed by a transparent turquoise sea. The very characteristic fish market makes the life of the resort. The graceful seafront, animated by ice cream vendors and other booths streches to the picturesque harbor. Also famous, pristine beaches Palo Bianco, Rosso and Spinasanta Palo, ideal by its perfect waves for surfing and windsurfing.

Cava d'Aliga

Cava d’Aliga
Cava D’Aliga is a village within the municipality of Scicli and offers a beach with two cliffs with impressive views. La Grotta dei Contrabandieri is a beautiful deep cave on the eastern side of the main beach. In the region of Punta Corvo, there is a very interesting site of an old abandoned lighthouse surrounded by cliffs and small coves with palmettos.

Sampieri

Sampieri
Sampieri, a small fraction of Scicli, is a pretty village of stone houses and cobbled streets. It is located on a limestone outcrop between two beaches of fine golden sand. The seafront is very renowned with its numerous hotels and tourist attractions. There is also the famous “Tomato Festival” which starts the summer season on 1 May. Sampieri also earned a place on the Blue Guide 2014.

Costa di Carro o Pisciotto

Costa di Carro o Pisciotto
La plage de Costa di Carro, située après Sampieri, est une partie renomée de la côte très impressionnante. La plage et la mer sont protégées par une petite zone fôrestière riche en agaves et en palmiers nains. A environ cinq mètres de hauteur, domine le paysage Furnace Penna ou Pisciotto, intéressantes ruines archéologiques industrielles qui remontent au début du XXe siècle. Le lieu a également accueilli plusieurs épisodes de la série télévisée du “Commissaire Montalbano”.

Marina di Modica

The beautiful bay of Marina di Modica is a wonderful oasis for surfing and windsurfing amateurs thanks to its favorable wind conditions. The presence of shops and night life places makes it the ideal place for summer entertainment.

Maganuco

Maganuco
Maganuco beach has very high dunes and often rough seas. Legambiente and the Italian Touring Club listed it among the most beautiful beaches of Italy and also included it in the Blue Guide 2014.

Pozzallo

Pozzallo
The city of Pozzallo was built around the tower erected in the XIVth century by Bernardo Cabrera Count of Modica, in order to defend the city.
Fishing center among the most important of the province of Ragusa, Pozzallo offers many beaches and night life venues. It was also included in the Blue Guide 2014.

Santa Maria del Focallo

Santa Maria del Focallo
After Pozzallo stretches a scenic coastline that includes the beaches of Santa Maria del Focallo. It is also known for its historical value. In fact it hosts the remains of an ancient watchtower.
Legambiente and the Italian Touring Club named it one of the most beautiful beaches of Italy in the Blue Guide 2014.

Baia di Porto Ulisse

Baia di Porto Ulisse
Located near Ispica, the Baia di Porto Ulisse reveals a stunning landscape with beautiful stones. It is also recognized as a mythical place where the Homeric hero landed during his travels on the Mediterranean Sea. Archaeologists also found Apollonia, a Roman harbor where it was possible to land boats.

Pantani Longarini

Pantani Longarini
The Longarini Pantani are brackish lakes located around Ispica separated from the sea by sand dunes. The area eventually became a resting place for many varieties of migratory birds such as mallard, flamingo, heron, or the stork just to name a few.

Isoletta dei Porri

Isoletta dei Porri (Leek Island)
Located in front of Santa Maria del Focallo near Ispica, Isola dei Porri is made of three rocky reefs characterized by the unique existing plant on the island, the leek Allium ampeloprasum, from which it was named after.

Punta Ciriga

Punta Ciriga
After Santa Maria del Focallo, Punta Ciriga has a coastline of sandy coves and cliffs overlooking the sea, having in front the island Iannuzzo which is a triangular spur coming off the coast of Ragusa and with no vegetation.
